This means that we follow your child’s lead during treatment sessions. We build flexible treatment plans so that we can follow your child interests & let them explore their curiosities. Throughout the session we will discreetly make adjustments to the activities they show interest in to ensure we work towards their goals.
When resistance does arise (because it will - learning new skills, especially ones that don’t come naturally is tough!), we make sure to draw on those activities that your child showed interest in as motivation to push through the challenge.
We also prioritize building a trusting, safe friendship with your child so that when we do ask them to get out of their comfort zone they can trust that they will still be safe. Children who feel safe are more likely to take risks, which is essential for skill development.
Alright, so you’ve already identified the root of your child’s challenges through an evaluation & and have established a loose game plan with an OT, now it’s time to get to work!
Whether we are seeing your child at school or in our clinic - all of our ot treatment sessions are built uniquely for your child with their specific goals in mind.
Using our approach our sessions are packed with occupational therapy interventions that incorporate movement, muscle work, and sensory experiences (that create just the right amount of challenge) to maximize time spent with our therapists.
Michaelene has been a great therapist, friend, confidante, etc. for our daughter over the last few years. She’s always kind and has come up with creative ways (that are relevant to our daughter’s interests) to help develop her skills. - Doug N.
KIND words
Great question! Depends on where we see your child -
Contact us to set up OT sessions at the gym
When you come into the clinic for your visit, normally I’ll start by checking in with you, the parent, to discuss any recent challenges or trends you have noticed that I could work on in our session.
Next, you can either hang out in the waiting room, or join us in the session (we actually would prefer it!). We’ll switch the focus to your child, connect with them, assess their level of alertness, and proceed with the session.
Chances are we'll talk back and forth with you during the treatment session to explain things, get a better overall understanding of all the moving pieces, and connect with you - because you are a part of the team too!
Once our time is up we will ask if you have any other questions & send you on your way. Each session is about an hour long. We will spend 50 minutes with your child, then reserve 10 minutes at the end to go over what we worked on with you.

If you would prefer us to see your child at school, we can contact their teacher to pinpoint the best time for us to see them, minimizing the amount of academic time missed.
At our agreed time, we will take them to another area in the school where we will work on their individual goals. Everything we work on in our gym can be adapted for a school setting.
Depending on their goals, we can also work with them in their classroom to help them problem solve, assist, or facilitate the necessary skills for certain classroom activities.
Seeing your child at school also gives us the opportunity to talk with their teacher and piece together the reasoning behind their challenges.
After the visit we will send you progress pictures via text, in addition to sending monthly progress emails & having phone conversations.
We are so thankful for the love and support you always give my daughter and our family. You have always shown my daughter that she IS important to you, and not just another spot on your schedule. You have given her the gift of believing in herself, because you always believe in her. You are truly amazing! We love you!!
Thank you, Michaelene! The amazing work you do with my daughter is an absolute miracle!

We all start somewhere, and to be honest, most of our clients come to us knowing next to nothing about OT.
So, just in case you can relate, we created a guide that will help you understand a little bit more about OT (and how it can help your child), and set you up for OT success by answering some FAQs.
We also talk about insurance, so you are going to want to snag your copy!
